UK Prepared to Utilize Frozen Russian Holdings to Support Ukraine's Defense
The British government is set to progress with employing the full worth of frozen Russian funds to aid Ukraine's military campaign, Leader Sir Keir Starmer has announced.
In a shared declaration, the heads of state of the UK, France, and Germany stated that this joint measure would heighten pressure on Russia's leader Vladimir Putin and persuade the Russian Federation to engage in negotiations.
They added that the decision would be implemented in strong partnership with the America.
British restrictions have frozen in excess of £25bn of Russian assets since Moscow began its comprehensive attack against the Ukrainian nation in 2022. But, up to this point, money provided to the Ukrainian government using Russian funds had solely been drawn from gains and dividends generated on them.
Sir Keir assured Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky that the United Kingdom, the French Republic, and the Federal Republic of Germany were aligned in their desire to advance efforts toward using the total worth of the seized Russian sovereign assets to conclude the conflict.
He added that additional sanctions over the next period would apply more pressure on the Russian government.
This announcement comes after EU officials met in the Danish capital previously to debate employing immobilized Russian funds for a €140 billion loan to the Ukrainian nation.
In the previous month, US President Donald Trump encouraged international partners to seize or employ frozen Russia's funds, according to reports.
The worth of seized Russia's funds in the EU is assessed to be approximately €211bn.

The Russian government launched widespread bombardments throughout the Ukrainian territory on recently, causing electricity outages in large parts of Kyiv, Kyiv, and multiple additional areas.

While applauding the Britain's firm backing for Kyiv, he noted it should indicate firmly that it would take part in the system, as well as enforce further measures on the Russian Federation.
