Former President Donald Trump announced on the weekend that he has invited the relatives of a National Guard member fatally shot last week to attend the White House.

He mentioned that he spoke to her parents and they were “deeply grieving”.

Details on the Heartbreaking Event

Soldier Beckstrom, 20, was lost her life in a shooting on last Wednesday in DC.

Her colleague, Staff Sgt Andrew Wolfe, 24, remains hospitalized in grave state.

Vigils across West Virginia have taken place in their honor.

White House Call

The president stated he’s talked about a meeting at the presidential residence for the families of both members of the West Virginia Guard.

“I said: ‘When you’re ready, because that’s a hard experience, arrive at the White House. We’re going to honor her,” the president told reporters. “And likewise with him, no matter the outcome.”

Community Support

Attendees gathered over the weekend at the high school in West Virginia to pay respects to Sarah.

Both the soldiers had been serving with the state guard as part of Trump’s national effort to aid public safety in Washington DC.

Honoring the Soldier

“Sarah was the individual that teachers hoped for. She conducted herself with calm resilience, a contagious smile and a optimistic attitude that inspired people around her,” the principal, the leader of Beckstrom’s previous school, told the media. “She was caring, considerate and always eager to assist people.”

Service arrangements for Beckstrom are in the process of planning.

Legal Actions and Policy Adjustments

Law enforcement have charged a twenty-nine-year-old Afghan national with a charge of first-degree murder and two counts of attempted murder while carrying a weapon.

The event prompted the Trump administration to suspend refugee claims and halt issuing entry permits to possessors of passports from Afghanistan.

Status of Wolfe

Andrew Wolfe, a native of Martinsburg, started his military career in early 2019 and is a graduate of Musselman High, according to the Associated Press.

He is still undergoing care and is “fighting for his life”, the state’s governor Morrisey said on television.

The state’s top lawyer the attorney general informed a news show that she planned to meet with his relatives.

Impact of Beckstrom

Beckstrom, from Summersville, completed her education from Webster County high school in June 2023 and enlisted soon after, working as a military police officer with distinction, per the state guard.

“She had a lot of kindness and she definitely had bravery,” he informed the audience at the service. “Though her life was cut short, she has left a mark that’s going to endure.”
