The Red Devils Poised to Sign Germany Forward Lea Schüller from the Bavarian Giants
The Women's Super League club are on the verge of completing the signing for prolific German forward Lea Schüller in a permanent move from Bayern Munich.
A Major Signing for the WSL Side
Schüller, who has half a year remaining on her contract, is known as a prolific goal-getter for both club and country. Having scored more than 100 goals for Bayern and scored 54 times in 82 appearances for Germany. Her arrival is viewed as a marquee coup for the WSL side.
Departure from Munich was expected after she appeared to be fighting back tears while applauding the German club’s supporters following a win over Bayer Leverkusen recently.
It was reported in December that the German women's top flight was losing one of its leading forwards. Per reports, the formalities for the move are now finalised.
Reliable Goal Threat to Boost the Forward Line
The 28-year-old’s arrival should represent a significant uplift to the team's forward line. She has been highly reliable in front of goal in Germany’s top flight.
- Over seven consecutive seasons, including the last term, she reached at least a double-figures tally of league goals.
- She won the top scorer award in 2021-22 season with a haul of 16 goals.
Building Steam at Old Trafford
Securing the German international coincides with a period when the club seem to be building momentum.
Recent performances feature securing a place in the Champions League knockout phase playoffs as a seeded team and a win in the Conti Cup quarter-finals.
In the transfer market, the winter break has brought additional business:
- The acquisition of Sweden defender Hanna Lundkvist on a multi-year deal.
- The contract extension for Japanese midfielder Hinata Miyazawa, who has become fan favourite since arriving in 2023.
On Miyazawa’s extension, a senior figure stated: “She has become a critical part to the way we play. Her footballing intelligence and skill enables her and the team to dominate play from the middle of the park.”
Lundkvist, who has arrived from a side from the American league, said: “You can feel how much the club have progressed in the last few years, competing in one of the strongest leagues in the world and now featuring in the top European competition.”
