The Porcine Pardon: Pig Named 6-7 Spared by Miami-Dade Leader.

While perhaps not at the identical stature as pardoning Thanksgiving turkeys, but the county's top official experienced a presidential-style act this week by ritually sparing the life of a swine named Six Seven.

Daniella Levine Cava carried out the annual tradition at the Cuban-themed Latin Cafe 2000 in the core of Miami’s Little Havana neighborhood.

“The swine has done no wrong. She is worthy of this pardon. Her criminal record is spotless,” Levine Cava said in a speech with obvious nods to the extraordinary and sizable number of pardons issued since the onset of a second term in office.

“Unless you count eating six or seven apples per day,” she went on. “I hope she experiences a lengthy and joyful existence free from concern.”

This ceremony, simultaneously observing and challenging the local cultural practice of consuming swine during the holidays, was founded to emulate the annual turkey pardoning at the White House.

The swine, contributed by a local firefighter, was given its name from the current slang trend of young people shouting “6-7” – originating from a hip-hop line – often seemingly at random. The phrase became so widespread that a prominent word reference recently declared “six-seven” its annual vocabulary selection.

A Peaceful Retirement

Six Seven the pig is now set to enjoy its days at a farm sanctuary “far from charcoal and roasting pans”, according to the event’s official press release.

“The annual pig pardon has become a beloved tradition to open the end-of-year celebrations,” said the event host, in a notably cheerful message.

“It captures the essence of Miami: happy, varied, and based in heritage that unite the community. Annually, we are proud to celebrate culture and compassion in a way distinctively Miamian.”

Participants enjoyed a plant-based fare of spinach croquetas and strong coffee as they toasted the swine's new lease on life.
