The Latest Casual Playlist Sparks Intense Debates Over AI Players, Experience Points, and Queue Times
Over the weekend, Battlefield Studios launched a fresh playlist titled Relaxed Breakthrough. In essence, this option resembles the standard Breakthrough format but includes a few notable changes:
- Each team includes only 8 human participants, with the remaining made up of 32 bots.
- Actions done by real players award complete experience points, while AI activities offer lower rewards.
- Only two locations are available: Siege of Cairo and Empire State map.
- Elements like Dogtags, achievements, and career stat updates have been turned off.
So essentially, the playlist delivers on its name: it's a laid-back take of Breakthrough. At face value, one could assume there's nothing wrong, as it gives more options for players looking for alternative ways to enjoy the title. But, gaming history have taught us anything, it is that you can't please everyone. In other words, a lot of Battlefield 6 fans are upset.
Community Responses: From Fury to Praise
"People want real players. Don't repeat the mistakes of your rivals," reads a response to the official announcement. "Absolutely shocking idea," says a different user. Meanwhile, in community forums, one user remarks, "I have no idea where we are headed with this title," and another details everything they consider to be broken in the game: "Fix bugs, fix drone glitch, correct rocket mechanics, fix [the] bloom after sprinting bug, improve hit detection. We don't need this bot mode."
However, amid the criticism, some gamers explaining how much they're enjoying the recent addition. "It's very fun to warm up, human participants keep it from being a complete grind but it's very relaxed," says a forum post. "The community doesn't understand that there are players who have lives and can't play this game all the time. Let them find a middle ground," states a different comment. One reply on Twitter clarifies that as they're "a parent gamer with busy schedules, this is great for me," and someone else praises the mode for "not being overcompetitive."
Constructive Criticisms and Player Input
Despite the support, there are constructive reasons to complain about Casual Breakthrough. A few folks have pointed out that it will make wait times more extended for other modes because of the large amount of options in the game already. On a similar note, certain regions already encounter mostly bots in the current modes. It also seems somewhat counterintuitive that the mode does not begin without a required amount of real players, even though it focuses mostly on fighting AI opponents.
Finally, one of the biggest complaints is that a previous feature was promised to offer complete rewards, including AI matches, but that was removed when they tried to remove bot farms from the mode. So Casual Breakthrough feels like the player base compromising in the middle, as per a Reddit comment. Another describes this addition as the developers "making a mistake significantly, I experienced so much fun in the first couple of days, why did they feel the need to adjust it?"
Looking Ahead: Will Changes Occur?
If the development team has proven anything to date with the latest installment, it's that they're listening and acting on player input. Assignments that were overly hard were adjusted very quickly, just like the specific battle pass objectives. Chances are that, should analytics indicates this new playlist is underperforming to their expectations, they will not hesitate to make further modifications.
