The British designer Antony Price, the visionary British fashion designer behind some of the most iconic looks worn by musical icons like Bowie and members of Roxy Music, as well as Queen Camilla, has passed away at the age of 80.

His reputation was built on his defined forms and performative fashion, including the light-hued ensembles that appeared in the iconic band Duran Duran's classic music video for "their hit Rio".

"Remembering him as a 'visionary' and a 'kind, intelligent and razor-witted friend,' the group posted a remembrance across their platforms."

This news arrives less than a month after he unveiled his latest collection in London, marking his return to the runway after over three decades. The performer Lily Allen walked in a dress evoking the notorious black velvet "revenge dress" made famous by Princess Diana.

A Lasting Legacy

Born in Yorkshire in 1945, Price relocated to London at the start of the 1960s to attend the prestigious Royal College of Art.

Shortly after his graduation, he commenced his career designing clothing for men at the label Stirling Copper and was the creator of the tight, button-detailed trousers that Sir Mick Jagger wore during The Rolling Stones' "Gimme Shelter" tour in the late sixties.

He established his eponymous line in 1979 and held his debut runway presentation a year later. The show opened with creations worn by supermodel Jerry Hall, who also wore the bridal gown Price specifically designed for her wedding to Sir Mick Jagger.

Working with Legends

A frequent collaborator of David Bowie, Price created the iconic jacket the artist wore for his "the song As The World Falls Down" music video in 1986.

His characteristic talent to merge menswear and womenswear along with his expert craftsmanship in crafting sculptural silhouettes established him as a "one-of-a-kind talent," in the words of the UK's fashion authority.

By the 1990s, he began working on outfits for Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall, which included various looks for her American tour after assuming the title.

With a vocation that covered more than five decades, Price held his ultimate fashion presentation in London just last month in conjunction with the fashion brand 16Arlington.

  • Defined Shapes: A hallmark of his work.
  • Performative Style: Shaping the look of rock and pop.
  • Boundary-Pushing Tailoring: Merging menswear with womenswear.
  • A Client List from Rock to Royalty: Including music legends and the future Queen Consort.

Design circles laments the passing to a true visionary whose impact on fashion and music remains deeply ingrained.
