The British tennis star Emma Raducanu has pulled out of the last two tournaments this season due to a medical condition she has been battling over the past 10 days.
The 22-year-old was due to play in events in Asia but chose to travel back to rest and recuperate prior to beginning plans for the 2026 season.
Her upcoming training will involve her coach Francisco Roig, as the pair have decided to continue collaborating again next season.
Raducanu underwent blood pressure monitoring during her first-round match versus Ann Li in the Wuhan tournament and stopped playing when behind 6-1 4-1 on an oppressively humid day.
Another medical visit was necessary a visit from the doctor at the recent Ningbo Open, where she lost in three sets to Chinese wildcard Zhu Lin in the opening round.
She was also playing noticeably restricted in the final set against Zhu owing to the lower back problem that has affected her on several occasions in 2025.
Such performances meant an encouraging season, in which she climbed into the international top 30 after a long gap since her previous ranking, ended with three successive defeats.
The athlete was close to victory with three match points before losing to American player Jessica Pegula in the third stage in last month's Beijing event.
Raducanu won 28 victories in the current season and reached the semi-finals in Washington, but the highlight of her season was at the Miami event in March.
As Britain's top player made the last eight of the WTA 1000 event, beating eighth seed Emma Navarro en route prior to a loss in three sets to the world number four Pegula.
She was coached by Mark Petchey as coach from Miami until Wimbledon, with Francisco Roig stepping in ahead of the US Open.
The initial agreement with the ex-coach of Rafael Nadal was through the season's conclusion but the partnership will continue, with a training session scheduled in the coming months.
Raducanu told that her three-day trial with Roig after Wimbledon was like a "covert operation" as the meeting was kept under wraps.
The player was close to beating world number one Aryna Sabalenka at the first competition with Roig in August's Cincinnati tournament.
The coach also accompanied Raducanu in the New York tournament, where she advanced to round three prior to losing to Elena Rybakina, the 2022 Wimbledon winner.
