Within hours, the top US court released an emergency order provisionally halting entire food stamp funds, which nearly 42 hundred thousand individuals rely on to buy groceries.

White House staff had petitioned the US appeals court to block a judge's order mandating they provide the upcoming complete Snap benefits during a US federal government shutdown, and was denied later the same day.

The top court's order came after the administration petitioned a national appeals court last Friday to halt a judge’s order mandating they provide this month's full monthly food stamp benefits amid a US federal government shutdown.

Following that petition to halt was denied, the government appealed to the high court in a new attempt to prevent the directive to pay for nutrition assistance benefits.
