Arne Slot Asserts He Is Secure and Retains The Club's Backing After PSV Defeat
Arne Slot admitted that it was natural for doubts to be raised about his position following a further convincing loss versus the Dutch champions.
The Reds suffered their 9th defeat in 12 matches, marking the club's poorest streak since being demoted in 1953-54.
They were dominated by the Dutch league champions on a tough night at Anfield.
“I am feeling safe, I'm fine, I have got significant support from the top,” Slot commented.
“It would be nice to change things and secure a win naturally but if you are in a managerial role and struggling then it is normal that questions are asked.”
He noted, “I'm comfortable with my situation. This isn't the first time I've found myself in a challenging situation but it's necessary that we improved our results.”
Talks with Club Management
When asked to provide details on his dialogues with the club's leadership, the head coach explained:
“There's regular dialogue. They assist to the team and for me and those talks happen but they don't phone me all the time each day to say they back me.”
He mentioned, “In the normal discussions I feel the confidence. But I haven’t spoken to them since this defeat so far so we'll see.”
Recurring Issues and Squad Response
Slot expressed regret over familiar failings from his Liverpool side in their Champions League defeat, namely missed opportunities and defensive lapses.
Meanwhile, player Jones was blunter in his assessment of the current crisis.
“I don’t have the answers. Honestly, I don’t. I’m saying that to everybody,” Jones said.
“It is unacceptable. I don't need to wait to consider it. I’m past being angry inside. I've reached the stage currently where I simply lack the words.”
He went on, “It's tough because I’m playing for the side I follow. I’m a fan, and I’ve seen Liverpool all my life.”
“In recent memory, I've not seen a Reds side going through a spell like this with results this poor.”
He concluded, “However we continue to wear that badge on our shirts. And until it is taken away, we’re always going to battle.”
“Our aim is to get this team return to the top, prove again what Liverpool stands for and why it's known as the top club in the planet.”
“However currently, we're in trouble and it must improve.”
